I'm a night owl. Which is ironic because I really love early mornings - when I manage to actually get up when the alarm clock goes off. I tend to get more done when I stay up until midnight or later, even if I need to be up before dawn the next day. It's the reason I drink an awful lot of coffee.
I long ago sleep in overrated. And here are 5 reasons why:
1) When you work all day, you have to have fun some time.
I spent 8:30 to 5:30 at my desk, being a professional. And that's great. But some days, I want nothing more than to sit on my couch, work on DIY projects or read, go on a shopping spree, vacate Charlottesville in name of the beach... While I can't head to the beach after work, I can hit the mall.
2) Neftlix Binges
If I don't have any plans after work, I'll easily watch 4,5,6 episodes of a show on Netflix. When I get sucked into a TV show, I just want to keep watching. If I'm sleeping, I can't watch episode after episode of Pretty Little Liars.
I really enjoy this here blog. And reading. If I didn't sit up until the next day most nights, I'd never get any blogging done. I'd certainly never finish a book.Writing may actually be the No. 1 reason I think sleep is overrated. Who knows, maybe some of this stuff I write at 11:00 at night will put me on the bestseller list one day.
4) Puppy Snuggles
Knox spends a lot of his day alone. I usually come home at lunch which is great - he gets a walk and some play time. In the evenings, it's all Knox, all the time. He doesn't take 'no' for an answer. The boy likes to play ball. And who could say no to that face?
My days are busy. My evenings are usually busy. And a lot of times, my weekends are busy too. That's the real reason I stay up so late. Because eventually, things get quiet. Eventually, I can just be still. That may involve one of the above reasons. It may involve me doing absolutely nothing. But it's my favorite part of the day.
Are you an early riser? Or a night owl?
Happy Thursday, y'all!
